Hanafossen and Feigefossen

Waterfalls Hanafossen og Feigefossen 25. June 2022

Bergheim to the left on an autumn day with little water in the waterfalls Hanafossen and Feigefossen.

Hallvard og Thomas are from Gaupne and are now living and working at their farms at Sørheim. Hallvard has a large raspberry production, some cows and is working on establishing a large apple garden with close to 5000 apple trees. Thomas is reestablishing his farm, holding sheep and working on growing his flock.

They both have ambition to use all their farms resources in a sustainable way. They want the farms to be usable for safe and healthy food production for many generations to come.

This quiet area on the south side of Lustrafjorden is close to the world heritage Urnes stave church, majestic landmarks like Feigefossen, Bergheimsnosi and Holtane. We want to create activity to make people visit and live in this area close to the world heritage. With our farms as a natural starting point we want to show you the best of norwegian nature - from the fjord, through valleys with spectacular waterfalls and quiet fields to the high mountains. We have spent a lot of our free time in this wilderness and we know the history about mining, farming and reindeer husbandry in the area. We believe that our knowledge and experience will benefit our guests and give you experiences you will remember, perhaps in encountering wild caribou or visiting the best fishing spots.

If you´re looking for wilderness, you can hardly find a better place.

The people behind

Thomas Sørheim Evjestad

Hallvard Sørheim Evjestad

The guides, Hallvard and Thomas Sørheim Evjestad, are two brothers who both are farmers at Sørheim. Thomas has around 50 sheep and works on the side as a carpenter. Hallvards farm is primarily a raspberry farm, but he also has a few cows.

From young age they both enjoyed all sorts of activities outside in the nature, skiing in the winter and hiking and fishing in the summer. Their love for nature and physical exercise led them to being cross country skiers at a high level, training and competing among the best in Norway. After a while they both longed back to having more freedom and time to spend in the nature and Thomas took over the family farm at Sørheim. A few years later Hallvard was lucky enough to be able to buy the farm Leri/Urdal, so now they are both farmers at Sørheim. They are both very passionate about their jobs as farmers, with a clear ambition about using as much as possible of their farms resources in a sustainable way. This means for instance to have their animals grassing in the mountains during the summer, which also lets them combine their work with spending time in the nature.

Very few people know the mountains around Sørheim as well as Thomas and Hallvard, and even though the landscape here is wild and magnificent, you will be in safe hands with one of these as your guide.
